Our nurses and doctors complete consultations via both phone and video call. Video call is the preferred method, we’ll provide you with a link to access it through the platform Coviu. You won’t need to download anything, and selecting the link will simply place you in a virtual waiting room.
If a video call isn’t suitable for you, you're welcome to complete your consultation over the phone instead. If you’re not present on the video call, the doctor will call the phone number saved on your profile. They’ll usually try twice, so please wait for another phone call if you've missed the first one.
Make sure the contact details on your profile are up to date. You can do this by selecting "Profile" from the navigation menu in the patient portal. It’s also worth checking that you don’t have private or unknown numbers blocked in your phone settings.
Alternaleaf doctors
A doctor will be assigned to you if appropriate once your initial nurse consultation has been completed and all required documents are reviewed. You can only be prescribed alternative medicine by one doctor at a time through Alternaleaf. This means that if you have a consultation with a new doctor, any existing prescriptions and TGA approvals will be cancelled.
If you are having issues with your current doctor and would like to request a change of doctor, you can contact the clinic in writing through clinic@alternaleaf.com.au. Please provide as much relevant information as possible. The clinic will review the circumstances and ensure the correct processes are followed.
Costs
Follow-up doctor consultations cost $59.
You won’t be charged until after you attend your consultation. If you have a credit or debit card on file, we’ll deduct the amount automatically. Otherwise, you’ll receive an invoice via email with the option to “Pay now”. You won’t be charged for consultations that didn’t go ahead. This includes if the doctor takes unexpected leave, or you accidentally miss your appointment.
Eligible concession card holders can receive 10% off Alternaleaf consultations. Learn more about eligible concession cards.
Follow-ups
We recommend seeing your Alternaleaf doctor every 6-8 weeks. Your doctor may recommend more frequent follow-ups depending on your personal circumstances. This allows the doctor to track your progress and make sure your treatment plan is working as intended. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions, or discuss potential changes to your prescription.
You’ll receive an email as a reminder to book in your follow-up consultation. It’s completely up to you if you choose to do this. Prescriptions usually remain valid for 6 months, depending on the doctor’s assessment of your circumstances. If you have an active prescription with remaining repeats, you can continue to place orders as normal.
Returning patients
If you haven’t seen your Alternaleaf doctor in over 8 months, you’ll need to contact us before booking in a follow up consultation. We’ll organise for a nurse to contact you to complete an assessment, and schedule a consultation for you.
